NATURAL SCIENCE AUDITORIUM
UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN CAMPUS IN ANN ARBOR
(Located on East University across the street from HILL AUDITORIUM
with entrance on side of building facing the DIAG)

WHAT IS/WAS IT?:
Last Summer, a unique event took place that shook up more than a few people's
notions of what 'alternative' means. NOISE-A-PALOOZA was originally an
attempt by the Ann Arbor Film Co-Operative in conjunction with Viral
Communications, and UnderWorld Industries, to venture into the domain of
live mult-media performance. The success of this experimental happening
has now prompted its return: NOISE-A-PALOOZA II.
Partly a response to the 89X/MTV 120-Alternative-Buzz-Nation/Perry Farrell
annual shoomzefest which the Co-Op feels to be a gross homogenization and
distillation of all that was once truly an alternative to the commercial,
corporate mainstream...Partly an excuse to showcase local
avant-underground-independent, multi-media-manipulation projects like the
amorphic, undefinable EARS UNDER SIEGE and Michigan's own ambient-trance
group, ROHM TECHNOLOGIES INC...Partly an excuse to showcase out-of-town
experimentalists like Columbus, Ohio's EVOLUTION CONTROL COMMITTEE...
The Second Annual Noize-a-Palooza II will be all of these things and much,
much more.
Aggresively prodding the interface between culture and chaos, explorers will
utilize sound, music, video, film, light and live action to create a truly
challenging perceptual experience. This year's extravaganza will feature
many surprises and "chaotic attractors" including:
ROHM TECHNOLOGIES INC: These scientific purveyors of atmospheric and intense
audio-visual stimuli are back after a short hiatus.
REDBOOK: This Toledo-based outfit creates subtle audio textures with
digital and analog tools, creating a marvelous mix of the ominous and the
profane.
GAGA: Noise-art supergroup from Columbus, Ohio. From trance to trombones,
these folks break all the rules and charm your socks off, too.
INTERRUPT: Experimental electronic work from Chicago. [added to original text]
ANONYMOUS TURTLE: An appropriated mass-media swamp poured over hot coals,
shaken, not stirred. If you thought 'ZOO TV' was neat then....well, don't
bother.
And of course accompanying all of this sonic mayhem will be visual stimuli
guaranteed to either disturb, relax, or tickle your funny bone (provided you
have one).
