The Binary Cafe was located in a small second story space north of downtown at 502 Yonge. It wasn't exactly easy to locate because all that marked its entrance at street level was a funky little sign centered on a door that was next to a non-descript restaurant of some sort.

Once I did find it, however, and took the trip up the forbidding staircase, I walked thru a second door and changed my life forever.

The west half of the Binary Cafe. Behind the counter is Anusia. Facing the kitchen area is Aaron. A customer browses the extensive magazine collection.

I was greated by two rogues who were sort of slumping over the counter, probably smoking or playing Magic or trying to get something working on one of the computers.

Immediately, I was aware of two things: there was no one else in the place, and these guys obviously didn't know (or care) much about "traditional customer protocol".

I immediately fell in love with the Binary Cafe.

[cupboard art]

The Binary was known for its incredible collage work that covered the walls and cupboards (as shown here). (More wall art: one, two)
